Several months ago Christopher mentioned he was worried that Sesame might not have much of an imagination. I told him not to worry about it. It is with as much humility as I can muster that I’m here to report I was right (again). Her imagination is in tiptop shape.
She has three imaginary friends. This is Goldbug. He is a gold bug. He wears a white shirt and purple and white mask.
This is his wife Garby. She’s a pink unicorn with blue and white spots. “Ok, Mom. They’re regular spots, not polka dot spots.”
The very recent addition to their family is Carla. She’s a girl and therefore a unicorn like her mother. She asked me to write a letter to Goldbug and Garby telling them she was “worried that Carla cried two times last week.”
Last night was Goldbug’s birthday. I was tired and not really in the mood for yet another birthday party, but I throw together the lowest of low-key parties. I banned presents and all decorating. Even I have a limit when it comes to throwing a party after bedtime for an imaginary friend. We all, except for baby Carla, got a chocolate and sang happy birthday.
I swear Sesame has been talking from the day she was born. Her first word wasn’t even a word. It was a short sentence- “Hi, Daddy.” Yesterday she talked to me about the history of Frozen nonstop for forty minutes when we were trapped in the car. She talks from when she wakes up in the morning to well past when she’s in bed for the night. I was a talkative child so what goes around comes around. The first story she made up over a year ago was, “Happy cat, happy mouse.” That evolved into “Happy cat ate the happy mouse. Happy cat.”
This past weekend she wrote the following story. I acted as the scribe and part-time illustrator.
This is Princess Watermelon. She was in her bedroom one morning getting out a bright pink dress. She saw that her bright pink dress was dirty so she got a red dress. She put it on then picked up a pair of black pants. She saw the surfing hamster getting out of his pajamas.
The surfing hampster cleaned his surfer and then he put on his new water shoes and his sun hat and sunscreen because he was going to the bed with the watermelon princess. Then he packed to go to the hotel.
The watermelon princess jumped into the water with the surfing hampster to look for fish to bring to the hotel. They caught a whale to bring back to the house.
They checked out their room. They thanked the one who cleaned the room for cleaning the room. They put the suitcases under the bed. The surfing hampster packed some extra bathing suits and water shoes. The watermelon princess thanked the one cleaning the room.
I’m touched she included the part about thanking the one who cleaned the hotel room. I always leave a thank you note for housekeeping when we stay at a hotel so it’s sweet she followed my example and added it to the story.
Now if only she’d follow my example and have more respect for quiet/less-talking times.

I’m sure these yearly posts (2014, 2015, 2016) of Sesame’s clothes are a snoozefest to most but I can’t stop, won’t stop until she protests. Even then I might not stop. Those who don’t enjoy smocked dresses or curly hair need not continue reading.
I bought this snowman outfit from a blog friend two years ago and it was dress length. I’m pretty sure this was the last year it will fit her.
I only bought two new Christmas outfits this year, one of which was this smocked tree outfit. It came with the cutest ruffly red pants that are too big and kept sliding off her bum, revealing to all the world that she still wears diapers. Apparently cute is more important to me than modesty because she wore it to church anyway.
This is the other new outfit I bought. It’s a real shame she wasn’t more excited about it.
I think we might get one more Christmas out of my favorite red dress. I bought it when I was pregnant and didn’t know the gender of the baby. It was too cute to pass up so I got it just in case I had a girl. I though the baby was a boy because I have no mother’s intuition. I’m not one bit sorry I was wrong.
Trip down the Red Christmas Dress memory lane.
If I look at tiny bald Sesame I get too emotional about how fast she’s growing. I’m going to go buy outfits for next year to cheer myself up. Long live retail therapy.

Almost 4 years ago I posted about our elephant/rabbit nursery. I thought it was time to do an updated tour of Sesame’s room. It’s generally not as clean as shown here. On any given day there are stuffed animals covering the chair and bed, lonely socks being used as bandaids for said animals and several books strewn about.
When we moved in the walls were a gross green. It had previously been pink but Mr. Jim thought prospective tenants wouldn’t want a pink room so he painted over it. He had no idea I was coming his way with everything pink and girly.
We still sit in the same rocking chair each night. It’s getting creaky and the cushions are getting flat but we’ve had some good cuddles in it.
I haven’t changed out the elephant and bunny watercolor prints she had in her first nursery. I’m planning a bird theme room for her next room and will leave the elephants up until then. I’ll never get rid of them. They’ll probably go to college with us when we share a dorm.
This is one of my favorite views in the house. This picture doesn’t do it justice but it makes me so happy. I love all the necklaces, bows and seeing the tiny dress she wore home from the hospital through the closet door.
Mr. Lion’s cardboard box and fabric scrap bed was not in the original design plan. He migrated there after being evicted from the crib. Also on the shelf are the turtle bank we painted when I was pregnant, a silver cup Christopher’s unit gave as a baby gift and our four tiaras and crowns.
I painted this bench on our last summer in Clarksville. It took several months longer than it should have but I’m pleased with the outcome.
Sesame has recently started adding her own decor to the room. We got these three candles in Massachusetts and she said they were “perfect” for her shelf. A is for Annabelle was a gift from Aunt Stephanie and it’s so sweet.
The green drawers house diapers (I don’t want to talk about that), books, books and more books.
We’re going through a bow drought. Any help in the form of new designs and/or colors would be greatly appreciated.
Aunt Michelle made this sign for us. I told AB that her friend Gracie’s mom gave it to her and she said, “Do I like her?” I don’t know if she was talking about Michelle or Gracie but either way that question means we definitely need to visit them again!

The problem with saying you have nothing interesting going on is that something might happen and you end up wishing nothing had happened.
Ask me how I know.
Annabelle was wearing big girl bottoms this morning as she often does. She acts as if they’re a diaper but I continue putting them on her so she doesn’t forget that she’s supposed to be potty training. She had an accident which I cleaned up. Then she had another. Ten minutes later she had another. I kept the paper towels and cleaner out after the first accident because I’ve learned a thing or two in my three months of the Potty Training Trial of 2017. I was frustrated about something I don’t even remember now so I went upstairs to regroup. Suddenly I heard yelling and crying from the living room.
Annabelle was trying to clean her little potty but instead sprayed herself in the face with the clorox bleach cleaner I accidently left out.
By the time I got downstairs her eyes and nose were swollen and red. She was screaming so hysterically I could barely wash her eyes out. She was squeezing her eyes shut and I didn’t think any water gone in. I gave her a cool facecloth to hold against her eyes but she didn’t want to. She kept screaming and crying. She is not much of a crier and definitely not a screamer so I knew she was in a lot of pain. I wasn’t quite sure if it warranted a trip to the doctors so I called Christopher and he said to take her to urgent care. As I put her shoes on she sniffled and said, “I fink I’m going to need something to help me remember this day.” As if the gray hairs I got today won’t remind me.
We drove to the pediatric urgent care with AB crying the whole way and saying she couldn’t see. I gave her Mr Lion which was a real treat since he’s gone extinct over the last few months. The urgent care was closed. Why? Who closes their urgent care? I had to find another urgent care which meant more time hearing her scream. Thankfully there was another right down the road. As I was checking her in she asked the receptionist if she was being a good patient. The receptionist said she was and gave her a little bag with coloring books, stickers and a pencil. She held onto the pencil for dear life the entire time we were there.
The doctor said her eyes didn’t look too bad but they did need to be washed out more. It took three of us to hold her down while he flushed them out. It was HORRIBLE. Even though it was an accident I felt SO SO bad for leaving the cleaner out and seeing her scream and try to get away from the doctor made it 10 times worse.
I rewarded us for surviving the experience with ice coffee and doughnuts. When she went down for a nap I lay on the couch and stared at the ceiling. It took me awhile to recover.

Me at 1:58PM |
Thankfully she’s ok now. Her little eyes are still red but she’s back to talking 480 miles an hour like her normal self. She gave me a hug and thanked me for taking care of her. Hopefully tomorrow will be more hugs and less tears!

Watching: Baby Einstein, Toy Story and Sarah and Duck. Do you yike the new Toy Story or the old Toy Story?
Eating: Yogurt is my favorite. I don’t yike olives. I yike peas, corn, and rice with peanut butter. I mean soy sauce! That’s so funny. Rice with soy sauce!
Reading: One Morning In Maine and Blueberries for Sal. At night I line up all my friends in bed and tell them we’re going to Buck’s Harbor, just like they do in the book.
Talking about: Japan, stingrays, soccer, what I want to be for Halloween, washing machines, the map of the world that’s round and talks about America (a globe). I yike to talk about crafts.
Planning: my garden next year. It will be a flower garden with seeds, carrots, coconuts and potatoes.
Earning: monies for my turtle bank. I dust the living room and do big chores. I clean the house. Sometimes I ask for monies after I make my bed but I don’t get any.
Going to: school. I yike the songs and the toys. I yike riding in the cars on the playground, crawling in the caterpillar and eating snacks. We sing the snack song and munch, munch eat a yittle bit. We dress the frog picture in his clothes for the day. I do his sunglasses and it’s so funny!
Favorite thing about Mommy: playing with her.

Yesterday was Annabelle Sesame Pie Lee’s first day of MDO for the year.
|
Yes, I succumb to the peer pressure and got a letter board. |
Her teacher last year was Miss Tracy. I LOVED her but she broke her foot twice and isn’t teaching right now. A few weeks ago I went to the school to bring paperwork. Miss Tracy’s substitute from last year was wearing a cast on her foot. I went into the office and the principle had a broken arm. Broken bones better not be contagious!
We discussed her morning on the ride home and I heard as much about animals as I did about school.
What did you play at school? Wif the cars and the blocks. Have you seen a turtle swimming in a car?
Did you go outside? Yeah, we p’ayed in the caterpillar and rode the bikes. Do you know about buluga whales?
What else did you do? We ate yittle pretzel and a yittle bit of juice. I saw Miss Tracy in the hallway when I was walking in a single line to the p’ayground and I did a veeeeery slooooow wave to her.”
All that playing and pretzel eating resulted in a 3 hour nap. I should sign her up for every day to get that kind of peaceful afternoon!
