Pre-Weekend Recap

Its not even 5 o’clock and my weekend has already been busy! I was up at the crack of dawn, aka 5:45, to leave for babysitting. I love my sleep but I love those sweet babies more. As Marianne Dashwood would said,”what care I about these early hours when there are such babies to watch?”.

When I left babysitting I drove to meet our friend, Dawn, and her two girls at a boutique dress shop. Dawn is getting remarried in May and asked me if I’d like to help her pick out a dress. How could I say no to an offer like that? I feel like quite the wedding expert these days! She did find a beautiful dress but nothing is final yet.

As soon as I’m done writing this, I’m leaving for a GNO with Autumn! We’re going to bake some chocolaty goodness, play games, eat a little more, drink tea, watch a girly movie that Autumn’s picked out for us, probably eat some more{clearly eating is high on our priority list}and most definitely go to sleep very late. We’ll also do A LOT of talking and laughing. I think we have all the ingredients for a wonderful time! πŸ™‚

Have a wonderful weekend! β™₯

Recipe and “Stuff”

This recipe was sent to me by my Amish pen-pal, Anna. I made it tonight for our last family supper with Andrew as he is now–a single young man. *cue to bring in the tissue box* It was good. So good. It can be compared to the dairy lovers paradise and the calorie counters nightmare. As Erika put it, “it has about 1,000 calories per tablespoon.” From someone who doesn’t count calories to those that do, its worth every last one. Without further yammering on adieu, I give to you:

Cheeseburger Soup

Bake together at 350 for 2-3 hours:
1 stick butter
2 lbs. ground beef
1 cup finely chopped onions

Cook together until soft, add a little salt:
1 cup chopped carrots
1 cup chopped celery
3 1/3 cup chopped potatoes
2 2/3 TLBS chicken base
3 2/3 tsp. basil
3 2/3 tsp. parsley
salt to taste

When the vegetables begin to soften, mix in the ground beef.

Sauce:
1 tsp pepper
9 cups milk
1 cup flour
1 stick butter
1 lb. cheese{I used extra sharp cheddar}
1 cup sour cream

For the sauce: melt the butter, add flour and slowly stir in milk. Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer until the cheese is melted. Mix all ingredients.

Anna wasn’t very clear in her directions so I had to use common kitchen sense to fill in the spaces. I cut the recipe in half because some in my family are allergic to dairy{not to mention the 1 lb of cheese and 9 cups of milk is ALOT}, and added extra chicken base, but it turned out fine. I also used oregano instead of basil and parsley since we’re currently out of both.

Business Matters

1) As mentioned, Andrew is getting married this Saturday. Along with all the hoopla and excitement that comes along with weddings, the grooms family also has the added pleasure of hosting the rehearsal dinner. We’re actually getting quite good at rehearsal dinners; Daniel’s was only 4 months ago. We’re considering starting a rehearsal dinner company to earn some extra money. {How do I get so off track?} All that is to say that I won’t be on the computer much now through Saturday. Therefore, please don’t be offended worry if your comments do not appear in a timely fashion. The moderator just possibly is up to her elbows in chicken and rice.

2) Thank you to all the wonderful ladies who have entered my giveaway. I’ve gone to each of your blogs and spent time poking around them. I can’t wait to see who wins!

3) Its 1:12am and I have to take a shower before bed, so the business meeting is now adjourned.

Four Days in the Life of…Part Two

Monday
Being professional movie makers*, Katie and I decided to make a couple movies of our day together. I wish I could put one up but they would ruin any and all attempts at dignity that I have been trying to build. They also contain so much inside humor that frankly, its hard to understand unless you’re us(which you’re not). Honestly though, we had sooo much fun making them and I think we both really needed to laugh like we did!
After brainstorming about what to give the happy couple for a wedding gift, Miss Smarty Pants(meaning K, not me…remember, I’m the humble one)suggested we try one of those stores where you choose and paint a piece of pottery and give them that. As predicted, once we got to the store it took us over 30 minutes to choose our pottery and colors. Oh the possibilities! We choose a rectangle platterish dish and picked out the shades of red, green, blue and white we wanted. Things went wonderfully until after the first coats dried. Lets just say that it is sometimes so hard to transfer what’s in your head to what you’re trying to create. We’re both very creative and Katie is a wonderful artist but neither of us is used to doing that type of work. After almost 2 hours we had a somewhat presentable dish that wasn’t how we wanted but wasn’t exactly awful. We decided to put some black loopdy-loops around the edge as a finishing touch but just as I got half way around, DISASTER STRUCK. The sleeve of my sweater brushed up against the wet paint and smudged it across one corner. I didn’t notice at first but Katie did and screamed which startled me so much that I basically feel backwards onto the chair behind me. Its pretty safe to say that we were both close to tears. Katie tried smudging the other corners to make it look “on purpose” but it just didn’t turn out the way we had wanted. I won’t see it until the wedding though because Katie is going to pick it up from the store and wrap it. I told her to be sure to wrap it in a bag so I can just unwrap, look at it and probably cry,and pop it back in the bag without anyone knowing. I am trying to comfort myself with ‘its the thought that counts’ and not think about how it could have turned out!
All in all it was a very busy, but fun, long weekend!

* I believe the “professional” word is producers

Edit: Katie and I also began planning our trip to Prince Edward Island!!

Four Days in the Life of… Part 1

This has been such a busy time lately(have I mention my brother is getting married?!)that I’ve barely had time to post anything. I’m going to(try to)do a quick overview of the last couple days in one two post so feel free to a) skip this or b) get some water/tea/coffee/whatever-you-like-to-drink ’cause you might be here a while.
Friday

Friday night was so fun. I went to Erika’s to meet up with The Girls(Dani and Rudi)so we could have one more bridesmaids/bride meeting before the wedding. We went to Macys to pick out makeup colors, which was an Experience in and of its self, and saw Rudy wearing makeup for the first time ever in her life. She looked beautiful as you can see:

We spent the rest of the night talking, eating crackers and cheese, letting Dani experiment with our hair, trying on our beautiful dresses and, believe it or not, laughing. Defiantly one of my favorite things about getting together is that all three times I’ve been able to spend time alone with Erika and really talk to her!

Saturday

The most exciting thing to happen all day was my phone call with Katie that basically went as follows:
me: “What are you doing on Monday?”
Katie: “Nothing. What are you doing?”
me: “Nothing. Do you want to come over?”
Katie: “Sure! I was about to ask you the same thing!”
Whoever said that girls talk for way too long without getting anything done obviously hasn’t met me and Katie. That part of the conversation last about 15 seconds and look at all we accomplished!

Sunday
I was in the nursery at church Sunday and oh the joy and bliss of spending the morning with one of my very cutest little curly-topped friend’s, Noa. I love when her family visits! We left church a tad early to pick up Katie and saw some beautiful Fall foliage on the way. By the way, Katie’s brother Jimmy brought her halfway to met us and Dad called him a “peach” for being so kind. Thank heavens Jimmy didn’t hear that! πŸ˜‰ I can’t let it go without mention that Mom, Katie and I played two games of Sequence at night. My humility prevents me from saying who won.

Odds and Ends

* First off, happy 21st birthday,Amanda!! Your sweet and Godly personality and fashion intelligence shines through in every post you write. I hope we’ll be able to get together soon! When we do I’ll be sure to be sporting my most fashionable outfit. πŸ™‚

* Aren’t these dresses I found from Casual Living so pretty? I love the feminine ruffles on the green dress. The border print dress looks perfect for a summer wedding or a special night out. The shoes on the model match the dress perfectly(which may be why she’s wearing them…).
* Today marks the 4 year anniversary of the day I got my permit. I always like remembering those the days that marked big events in my life. I’m sure my family always likes me reminding of it too! πŸ˜‰ Somehow I failed to mention that July 5th was the day I got earned my license. These two days always remind me of Grandpa because he always joined in my enthusiasm and excitement in counting days the days until I could drive. I can still hear him saying “did you sign up for drivers ed yet?”.

* 25 days ’til the wedding!

Technical Difficulties

Unfortunately, our phone and internet decided to completely stop working on Monday so I am only now letting you all know where I’ve been: The Land of the Dead Phone and Stopped Internet. Its not a very lovely place. Right now I’m using the computer at Lauren’s house to catch up on a few things but hopefully soon I’ll be coming to you from All is Well in the Land of Technology.
